Schools Connectivity Service - Full council meeting update on 10th April 2016
Whilst recognising the benefits of the new contract with Updata, Councillors voiced concern about the impact on some rural schools, and have asked to convene a working group to look at any possible mitigating actions for those schools particularly adversely affected.
This is likely to take place later this month, with the working group reporting through findings and any actions to Policy and Resources Committee at the end of May.
However, in the meantime, it is still essential that schools keep to the original time scale and confirm to us their decision relating to the Updata contract by Friday 15th April 2016.
This will ensure that Updata can complete the project plan and commence implementation of schools that are not in this position. This will allow the financial benefits to begin to be realised and avoid paying for more expensive infrastructure to BT longer than necessary.
Any decisions to mitigate the impact on rural schools would then be applied retrospectively.
