Persistent Absence clarification

There seems to be some confusion regarding how the Persistent Absence (PA) rate will be calculated now that the rate has changed from 85% to 90% (which came into effect from the start of this current academic year 2015/16).

In order to clarify the situation schools need to be aware that DfE brought in new methodology which will classify pupils as persistent absentees if they miss 10 per cent or more of their own individual possible sessions, rather than reaching a standard threshold of absence sessions.

DfE recently published a guide to absence statistics document which is attached for reference.
