Autumn 2016 School Census - Additional Information
This is a reminder that 2016 Autumn Census day is Thursday 6th October 2016. Please ensure that your census file is uploaded and submitted to COLLECT no later than Friday 7th October 2016. If you have any problems meeting this deadline please email the Business Intelligence and Performance Service (BIPS) at bi@norfolk.gov.uk explaining the problems you are having and when you expect to upload your census file.
Why is this census important?
Data provided in this School Census is used by various organisations for many purposes. Among these are:
- School Budget Allocations (their main budget share)
- Universal Infant Free School Meal Allocations (meals taken on the day feed into the calculation for the year)
- Pupil Premium allocations
- Allocation of the Early Years Block of the 2016/2017 dedicated schools grant (DSG)
Therefore it is important that your return is completed accurately and on time.
Additional information on changes this academic year:
In addition to the extra data around Proficiency in English there have been a few queries with regards the Nationality and Language data being collected. Whilst the advice for this change may have been picked up by a number of schools too late to implement requests prior to the summer break it is important that this process is commenced as soon as possible.
Therefore, if you have this additional information for your pupils please ensure that you enter it, using the appropriate coding, in your MIS for the Autumn Census, and then ensure it is included in the Spring Census onwards.
If you have been unable to obtain this information by Census day then:
For Nationality and Country of Birth use code NYO (Not Yet Obtained) rather than NKO (Not Known) as NKO should only be used where a guardian or adoptive parent has taken care of the child and this information is not able to be accessed. For all LA maintained schools where a Nationality and Country of Birth code has been set to NKO the reviewing team will contact the school to verify this is a true code before they authorise the return. Please ensure that you have obtained the full information for all pupils and entered it in your MIS by the Spring Census.
For any child where a Proficiency in English assessment has not been done or fully assessed at the time of the Autumn Census please use code N (Not yet assessed) and ensure a full assessment is completed and appropriate coding entered in your MIS prior to the Spring Census.
