Children Missing Education - statutory update

You will be aware that under the Education Regulation (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2006 and 2011 (as amended) schools had to notify the Local Authority as soon as the specific grounds for deletion from roll were met and notification had to be no later than the date on which the pupil’s name was deleted from the register.

Within Norfolk, following various consultations, we have always expected schools to notify us whatever the reason that a pupil has been removed from roll.

The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2016, which came into force on 1st September 2016, has made this a statutory duty that schools notify the Local Authority irrespective of the reason for the removal from roll.

As a result updates have been made to the Norfolk’s CME Practices and Procedures and the CME forms. Whenever you remove a pupil is from roll please send the information to the Children Missing Education Assistant on form CME 1, which has been revised to include all the information schools must provide in their return to the Local Authority.
