Publishing assessment results on the school's website

Local-authority-maintained schools

Guidance for local-authority-maintained schools on what exam and assessment results should be published on your school's website is provided by the DfE at:

In the case of Key Stage 2, the guidance is currently slightly ambiguous. The DfE are arranging for this to be amended to avoid any future confusion, but in the meantime, please be advised of the correct interpretation of the four measures to be published, as annotated below:

Key stage 2 (end of primary school) results

You must publish the percentage of key stage 2 pupils who achieved:

  • the expected standard or above in reading, writing and maths (combined)
  • average progress in each of reading, writing and maths
  • an average 'scaled score' in each of reading and maths
  • a high level of attainment in reading, writing and maths (combined)

Key Stage 1 and Early Years

There is no statutory requirement to publish end of Key Stage 1 assessments, Phonics Screening Check, or Early Years Foundation Stage assessments, but schools can choose to do so.

Key Stages 4 and 5

Details of what must be published for Key Stages 4 and 5 are clearly stated on the above DfE website.

Key Stages 2, 4 and 5

Please also note that you are required to include a link to the school and college performance tables service on the school's website.

Academies, free schools and colleges

The information that all types of academies, free schools and 16 to 19 colleges should publish on their websites can be found at:
