Early Help training

In the documents, 'Working together to Safeguard Children' and 'Keeping Children Safe in Education', all school and college staff should be prepared to identify children who may benefit from early help. A school or college's contribution to inter-agency working includes providing a coordinated offer of early help when additional needs of children are identified as well as contributing to inter-agency plans to provide additional support to children subject to child protection plans.

To help schools and colleges to have clear understanding about how the early help process works and how it can support children there is a range of training available:-

  • Family Support Process (FSP) training - a one day course covering:-
    • how to gain informed consent;
    • how to complete the Family Support Form using a Signs of Safety approach;
    • who to involve;
    • when to share information
    • how to plan the next steps.

    This training is delivered across the county and dates are available to book via the Norfolk Early Help Website.

    Please note one DSL in every school should attend this FSP training

  • Bespoke FSP training and Signs of Safety briefings are also available
  • If a professional within a school requires support with the FSP, the Process team within the Early Help team can provide information, advice and guidance. This may include:
    • Short term mentoring for professionals to complete the FSP Assessment, Plan or review
    • Information and guidance around implementing the Signs of Safety approach within the FSP.
    • Support for professionals to ensure that the voice of the children and young people are central to the FSP
    • Consultation on 'stuck' cases
  • If you would like telephone or face to face support around the Family Support Process please tick the 'Early Help Consultation' box on the Request for Support form.
  • To request a service from one of the Early Help practitioners, where either a universal FSP has been unsuccessful or the needs of the family are beyond the offer of the services available universally, please complete a Request for Support form clearly identifying what's working well in the family, what you are worried about and what you think needs to happen.
