Norfolk Primary Headteachers Association Election of a New Chair from September 2017

I'm writing to you in the hope you may put yourself forward for this role or consider nominating someone you know - but please ask them first!

All primary heads, principals, CEOs, executive heads, heads of school (including infant, junior and nursery) are welcome to nominate themselves. One person can be Chair or two people could be elected as Co-Chairs.

The role of Chair attracts an annual payment of £14,000 (or £7,000 per Co-Chair) with an expectation that the Chair will work approximately one day a week (two half days for Co-Chairs) for the association. This is paid termly. The money could be used to backfill at your school, provide leadership opportunities for colleagues in school or increase your salary for the duration of the tenure to reflect the additional responsibility, depending on your individual arrangements with governors.

Please email your nomination to Claire@norfolkeducationleaders.org.uk by Friday 9 June. Your nomination should include the name of the person, their current job title and school and no more than 100 words as to why you/they would like the opportunity to be the Chair or Co-Chair of NPHA.

All primary schools and academies will be invited to participate in an online voting process that will begin on Monday 12 June and finish on Friday 23 June. All primary school and academies will be notified of the result on Monday 26 June.

To help in your deliberations, Binks Neate-Evans - the current NPHA Chair - has outlined below some of her thoughts reflecting on her time in office and looking ahead to the future of NPHA. I know she is also very happy to meet with any individual for a more detailed discussion.

Comments from Binks Neate-Evans, current NPHA Chair

I have been chair of Norfolk Primary Heads' Association for two years so my term of office is due to finish in July.

The association has grown in size and reach in these fast changing times. The role of Chair has been absolutely fascinating, providing me with genuine opportunities for professional development and working at strategic level with local, regional and national leaders of education. It has undoubtedly brought benefits for my school, the governors and the staff as it raises the profile of the school, and involves the whole team in developing understanding about the wider educational context and policies. It has also resulted in invitations to speak on national platforms, at Westminster and at a regional level - this is obviously a non-compulsory aspect but does help to raise the profile of issues facing Norfolk schools.

NPHA has become increasingly critical in today's educational landscape as it is a uniquely neutral organisation for all types of schools. It is beginning to work far more strategically with our secondary school colleagues in Norfolk Secondary Education Leaders, which again provides a great chance for professional development. NSEL is co-chaired by Simon Fox and Carol Dallas, both of whom are highly committed to strengthening the partnership with the primary phase.

We have increased our membership using a subscription model and secured further funding for the following year from the LA, so we are in the process of really drilling down to some core activity which is likely to include:

  • leadership resilience and well-being
  • mental health as a cross society issue
  • developing excellence in transition at all phases
  • high quality Refreshing Leadership conference
