Interactive Whiteboard Expansion 2005/06

Interactive Whiteboard Expansion 2005/2006

Norfolk has received funding through the ICT in Schools Standards Fund (SF 31a) for a further one hundred and twenty interactive whiteboards to be installed in primary schools. The aim of the expansion program is to enable schools to continue to raise standards by the creative use of ICT in learning and teaching.

It is a condition of the Whiteboard Initiative funding that it must be used to enhance learning and teaching for a whole key stage or a whole year group. If selected for inclusion in the expansion programme, small schools with three classes or fewer will be provided with a board for each class. Larger schools will be provided with boards for a complete key stage or complete year group. The expectation is to be able to provide boards to approximately thirty schools during this financial year.

If you would like your school to be considered for inclusion in the Interactive Whiteboard Expansion, I would be grateful if you could complete the attached form and return it to Anne Mitchell at the Norwich Professional Development Centre, Woodside Road, NORWICH NR7 9QL (Fax: 01603 700236) by Friday 27th May 2005.

All schools who are chosen to be part of the expansion program will be informed by 10th June. Schools who are not successful will be contacted by 17th June.

General information about the provision of Interactive Whiteboards
  1. There will be funding for approximately 120 boards for primary phase schools during the 2005-6 financial year.

  2. Schools will have the option of Smart Board or Promethean whiteboards.

  3. Funding will cover the cost of the boards, projectors and installation.

  4. Boards must be fixed and placed in classrooms. They cannot be installed in shared areas or computer suites.

  5. Schools with three classes or fewer will be provided with a whiteboard for each classroom.

  6. Larger schools will be asked to choose a key stage or a year group in which to install the whiteboards.

  7. Each school allocated whiteboards will receive one day's in-school support from the advisory service per term for two terms.

  8. No allocation of a single board will be made.

  9. Schools that have already purchased interactive whiteboards will not be excluded from this programme.

  10. The programme will aim to achieve a geographical spread throughout the county, although the selection criteria mean that it may not be possible to achieve a 'perfect' balance.

  11. Schools allocated boards in the 2004/2005 programme will not be eligible to apply.

Criteria for selection

The following criteria will guide the selection of schools for the Interactive Whiteboards Expansion programme:

  • Schools that have already identified ICT as a key area for development within the Primary Strategy and included it in their school improvement and development plan.

  • Schools where the Headteacher will have completed the NCSL 'Strategic Leadership of ICT (SLICT) course OR schools where the Headteacher is or will be registered to take part in the SLICT course in 2005/2006.

  • Schools that will agree to provide at least one day's supply cover for Professional Development time for each teacher allocated a whiteboard in their classroom.

  • Schools that have identified Hands-on Support providers.

  • Schools that have Leading Literacy and/or Numeracy teachers who are successfully embedding ICT in their subject and raising standards as a result.
