Swimming Pool Operating Procedures Review
You may be aware that, following a recent pupil fatality at a swimming pool in Buckinghamshire, the Health and Safety Executive required that Authority to review its swimming pool safety operating procedures. All schools with swimming pools must have written normal and emergency operating procedures in place in line with guidance contained in Code of Practice HS7 - Health and Safety in Swimming Pools, Part One. This can be found on Esinet at http://schools.norfolk.gov.uk/myportal/index.cfm?s=1&m=353&p=164,index
To ensure that schools have written procedures in place and are operating to them, copies of your current Pool Safety Operating Procedures, i.e. the Normal Operating Procedure and Emergency Operating Procedure, and a brief outline of how staff and other pool users are made aware of these procedures should be sent to:
Martin Morley, Room 057, County HallWe will then look through the procedures to identify any significant shortcomings or other concerns and offer advice and guidance to make changes or amendments where necessary.
by the end of the Summer term i.e. 22nd July.
Please contact Martin Morley (health and safety issues) or Martin Radmore, Adviser for Physical Education, (curriculum swimming issues) if you have any queries or concerns regarding the above.
