Pupil Achievement Tracker (PAT)
1. Update for those already using the Pupil Achievement Tracker (PAT)
There is a new upgrade to the PAT software - version 4, available from http://www.standards.dfes.gov.uk/performance/pat/ and there are new 2005 pupil data files for KS2 and KS3 ready for downloading from www.keytosuccess.dfes.gov.uk
2. Getting Started with the Pupil Achievement Tracker (PAT)
Having advised schools to use the Pupil Achievement Tracker, the Norfolk Education Advisory Service is trying to support schools with training sessions over the next few months. The following information will be helpful to people who will be attending the training and need to get started with PAT.
-
The software
You will need to download the PAT software from the following DfES website: http://www.standards.dfes.gov.uk/performance/pat/ Follow the on-screen instructions for downloading and installing the system on your computer. You may find it useful to download one of the Tutorials offered on the same website.Note: the PAT User Name is "admin" and the Password is "autumn".
-
The data
You do not need to export all your data from Phoenix -files containing your basic pupil data and results are provided at the following DfES website: http://www.keytosuccess.dfes.gov.uk/schools/ To enter the schools' area you will need your username and password that you have for DfES data collection websites and the s2s website. This is a jumbled mixture of capital and lower case letters, sometimes with numbers (available from us in the Management Information Centre if required).Once in the secure area of the Key To Success website, you will find several files ready to be downloaded for PAT. Double click on each file and save it on your computer.
-
The next step
The next step will be to import the above school files into PAT. Start the PAT software by double clicking the shortcut on your desktop, enter the password (autumn), and click "OK". Click the "Help" button to obtain guidance on importing the files. Usually the files downloaded from Key To Success are "XML" files so during the import pupil data routine, the "import type" should have the top option selected, for "Common Transfer File (xml)". You may get error messages while the data is importing - the easiest option is to accept them.
If you need further help, there is a DfES PAT helpline: 0845 3101280.
