Review of the School Staffing Structure - Annex to RIG FAQs

Review of the School Staffing Structure

Further to MI 178/05, numerous supplementary requests for information, advice and support have been received. We have reviewed these, taking into account points raised with the RIG national helpline and there are a number of common key issues that are emerging as a result of the staffing review process, as follows:

  • Are schools expected to consult unions where there are members at the school but no representatives?
  • What information should be provided to recognised unions and staff as part of the consultation?
  • How can the new staffing structure recognise the role of teachers in co-ordinating subjects across the curriculum, especially in smaller schools?
  • Is it acceptable for responsibilities in the new structure to be unremunerated?
  • Do new Deputy Head posts have to be advertised?
  • Can TLR payments be shared?

  • Please click here to access an annex to the RIG Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) which is simply to highlight advice on these matters.

I would also like to remind all schools that the review of their school staffing structure must be completed by 31st December, 2005. If you need any further help and support, please contact the Norfolk Remodelling Team on 01603 638092 or your school's HR Consultant.
