Review of the School Staffing Structure

Further to MI 178/05, numerous supplementary requests for information, advice and support have been received. We have reviewed these, taking into account points raised with the RIG national helpline and there are a number of common key issues that are emerging as a result of the staffing review process, as follows:

Are schools expected to consult unions where there are members at the school but no representatives?

What information should be provided to recognised unions and staff as part of the consultation?

How can the new staffing structure recognise the role of teachers in co-ordinating subjects across the curriculum, especially in smaller schools?

Is it acceptable for responsibilities in the new structure to be unremunerated?

Do new Deputy Head posts have to be advertised?

Can TLR payments be shared?
