Teachers Salary and Safeguarded Sum

Governing Bodies have a statutory duty to write to all members of the teaching staff by 31 January, 2006, notifying them of their salary and any safeguarded sum, following the restructuring of the school workforce. This has been prompted by the move from Management Allowances to Teaching and Learning Responsibility Points, which is the next phase of the National Workload Agreement.

EFS have devised a tool to assist schools in fulfilling this statutory duty, in collaboration with colleagues from Children's Services HR and the Advisory Service. It takes the form of an addition to the Structure Builder tool that most schools are already familiar with. This addition comprises a safeguarding calculator for the period 2005/06 to 2008/09, along with a draft letter for the governors to notify each staff member about their salary and safeguarded sum.
