Pupil Referral Unit Management Committees

Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) Management Committees

Norfolk has four PRUs (soon to be re-organised into five with the new Children's Services areas) which work with children and young people with emotional and / or behaviour difficulties and with those who have medical needs or are school refusing. Many pupils have been permanently excluded from school and it is the role of the PRU to work to return these children and young people to mainstream school or into more specialist provision, when necessary. The PRUs are based in Norwich; King's Lynn; Great Yarmouth; Thetford and North Walsham.

Each PRU has a Management Committee which supports the work of the PRU in a similar way to a governing body. However, as the PRU is direct Local Authority provision, the committee does not have as full powers as those of a governing body. The guidance for management committees is on the Esinet at: http://www.esinet.norfolk.gov.uk/cadmin/misheets/Guidance%20for%20Management%20Committees%20Sept%2005%20(2).doc

All of the management committees would like to recruit staff representatives from local schools to join the committees. Please contact myself or the area local manager to find out more about the work of the PRU and the commitment involved.

Thank you very much for considering this. The vulnerable children and young people who are educated by our PRUs really need the support of their local community representatives.
