Pupil Specific Funding Allocations

Following publication of MI Sheet 46/06, a number of schools have told me that, although they are concerned about the level of the funding adjustment made to Pupil Specific Funding allocations, the main issue is the timescale for dealing with it. Having now issued budget shares, officers have been able to assess the capacity for providing some sort of transitional funding from the contingency for affected schools.

As a result I have decided to fund, from the contingency, an additional one off payment in 2006/07 for all affected schools. This will be equivalent to the first five hours of support in primary schools and the first ten hours of support in secondary schools for the summer term for each Pupil Specific Funding allocation. The payment will be made as an adjustment to the school’s budget share.

The calculation for primary schools will be:

Number of Pupil Specific Funding allocations x £396 x 5 x 5/12
and in high schools:
Number of Pupil Specific Funding allocations x £396 x 10 x 5/12

The number of Pupil Specific Funding allocations can be found in Paragraph 3 of the SEN Memorandum included in the budget share pack. It is shown as the number of Band E pupils.

£369 is the amount allocated to provide one hour of support per week for a year.

5/12ths covers five months of the year.

Attached below is a spreadsheet showing the additional funding allocation each school will receive. This will be adjusted in your budget share in May. This is a one-off payment based only on the headcount shown on your 2006/07 budget share dated 28.2.06; no further transitional funding will be available for any Pupil Specific Funding allocations not included in the February budget share.
