Management Information Sheet
Example Letter when a School may have Imposed an Informal or Unofficial exclusion
Informal or Unofficial Exclusion
This is an update of the previous MI sheet 170/05 concerning the monitoring of unofficial exclusions.Following a report to Children's Services Management Team, it has been agreed that the letter that is sent on to schools when a possible unofficial exclusion has been reported, should be updated and also copied to Chairs of Governors on each occasion it is used. The new version is attached. This clarifies the situations in which parents or others might interpret that an unofficial exclusion has been imposed, but the school does not consider that this is the case. It also shows the steps the school will have taken, which indicate that there was no unofficial exclusion.
An electronic form (to be provided on the internet with other information about exclusions) has been developed to enable parents, carers or others to report concerns about possible unofficial exclusions. This form is also attached.
Data about reported unofficial exclusions will continue to be reported to Children's Services Management Team in a 6 monthly basis and this data will also be provided to the Advisory Service to enable Review and Development Advisers to raise the issue with the schools involved.
