Foundation Stage Profile Information
You will shortly be receiving by post a summary of your school's 2006 Foundation Stage Profile results including, for the first time, some national figures in addition those of the local authority and your school summary. Please note that the national figures are for 2005 because the 2006 results are not yet available. They will be published on the DfES Standards website later in the academic year. This year, the results show the percentage of children achieving 6 points or more and not the average number of points as was shown in previous years. This is because a score of 6 across all the thirteen scales indicates that children are working securely within the early learning goals and it therefore gives a clear benchmark of sound attainment. The school summary score sheet is similar to previous years but now includes an additional column of results for those scoring 6+ across each of the thirteen scales.
2006 is likely to be the last year that the Local Authority will distribute Foundation Stage Profile information on paper. The Improving Performance Step by Step website (available through the My School pages on EsiNet) offers a wide range of information relating to the profile data, and includes comparisons with the Local Authority and national figures. Schools using the e profile (see below) have also found that they can greatly benefit from generating and monitoring their own data throughout the year, and reviewing changes in performance from one year with another.
To make this possible, schools are recommended to use the electronic version of the Foundation Stage Profile (the 'e profile') which can be downloaded here. Schools already using the e profile should upgrade to the latest version, 2.4.3, which was made available in June 2006. For guidance on how to import individual pupil information and export the results, please contact ICT Solutions on their website.
Please ensure that your reception teachers have this information. If you have any further questions with regard to the use of the Foundation Stage Profile, or your school's results, please contact Fiona Musters (Primary Adviser) at the Professional Development Centre. She will be pleased to try and help.
