Target Setting (Special Schools) - Autumn Term 2006

Target Setting for 2008 - Key Stages 2, 3 and 4

As you are aware the statutory regulations for Target Setting apply to Special Schools as well as mainstream schools. Regulations require schools to set these statutory targets by the end of December 2006 for the Summer 2008 tests and examinations. To enable the Local Authority to collate all targets to meet this deadline please could you submit your targets by Friday 8th December 2006. Therefore please could you complete on-line all the proformas relevant to the age groups catered for by your school. Please refer to the MI sheets relating to target setting guidance and timetable sent to all Primary and Secondary Phase Schools.

Obviously, within your own school's development planning you will be undertaking your own target setting arrangements and recording them in line with your own school procedures and using P scales wherever applicable. This will enable you to comply with the statutory requirement for schools which set zero rated targets to set measurable performance targets at the relevant Key Stage using the P scales or other performance criteria. Your SDA will collect these targets from you by 8th December 2006.

If you are setting targets for Key Stage 2, 3 or 4 rather than zero related targets please refer to the following Esinet links for guidance in the password protected "My School" area.

Further guidance to support you in the process of target setting can be found on the DfES website.

Also your SDA will be able to discuss with you any issues arising in the letters. However, if you have any further enquiries please do not hesitate to contact Terry Cook, (Head of School Performance, Organisation and Inclusion), Norfolk Children's Services, Tel: 01603-433276.
