Warning of Potential Scam
Please be aware of a potential scam that has been reported to Finance & Business Services by a number of schools this week.
An e-mail is sent to the Finance Officer that purports to be from the Headteacher, it's entitled QUICK ONE. The e-mail starts by asking the Finance Officer if they're at their computer, and when replied to the algorithm creates a reply from the Headteacher asking for a Chaps/BACS or faster payment to be made from the school's accounts.
It appears to be a well thought out and clever scam.
Barclay's have passed this on to their Fraud Intelligent Centre who are already aware of these kind of email scams.
Their advice, in addition to the updated Fraud Awareness information, is that schools can report these kind of scam emails directly to the Barclays Fraud Centre by emailing Reportascam@barclays.com.
