Governors and Children's Services Meetings

Following the reorganisation to 5 Areas in the county, and in order to allow the Area Directors time to put their structures and systems in place, the Governors and Children's Services meetings were temporarily withdrawn. However, they are reinstated from this term, and Children's Services, through the Governor Services Team, will be working closely with the Norfolk Governors' Network (NGN) to organise and promote the meetings.

Since September 2006 over 800 new governors have been appointed in Norfolk. As a result, many current governors may not know about the NGN, the independent 'voice' for school governors in our county. The meetings are an opportunity for people to talk to NGN committee members, discuss school and educational issues directly with Children's Services officers and celebrate schools' and governing bodies' achievements.

Members of the County Committee of the NGN will chair the meetings, and the Area Directors, will lead the discussion in their own area. In future, there will be only one meeting per area each term, with, for this term, Fred Corbett, Deputy Director of Children's Services, also attending. It would be very helpful if governors attended the meeting planned for their own area, as this will enable more focused discussion of specific area/locality matters.

Meetings will be arranged by Governor Services, and in future will be advertised in a variety of ways: in the termly Governor Training Booklet; in the 'Agenda' newsletter; and on both the Governor Services and NGN websites.
