May 2007 (Summer) School Census

The Dfes requires all schools to complete their May 2007 School Census return on 17th May 2007. Please ensure that your School Census file reaches the Information & Research Centre no later than 23rd May 2007.
Files should be sent using the AnyComms (AVCO) data transfer system.

Please note the following main issues regarding the May (Summer) Census:
i) Data will not be required for the following modules:

* Class Information
* Staff Information
* Reconciliation
* Admission Appeals
* Information Communications Technology (ICT)
* Miscellaneous

ii) All Exclusions: Permanent, Fixed Term and Lunchtime will need to be recorded in the May Census, as does Attendance data.

What you can do now
It is absolutely essential that you read the full Dfes guidance, which is available on the Teachernet website.

Please refer to MI Sheet 17/07 for guidance on the exclusions data required.

Please also note that we are still endeavouring to collect accurate data on ethnicity and first language and would ask you to be mindful of MI Sheets 176/06 and 126/06 when checking your data prior to this May's returns.

Phoenix Schools only
Full instructions on how to produce and send your School Census return are on the ICT Solutions website.

You should now be using Phoenix Version 1.39. There are plenty of checks you can do to your data before census date. We strongly advise that you do these checks and do not wait until census day. We would also encourage you to complete at least one School Census 'dry-run', as per the guidance.

Non-Phoenix Schools
Schools are requested to use their School Census compliant software to produce their School Census return. Non-Phoenix schools will need to contact their appropriate support team. Dates for your diaries
Could you please note that the date for the Autumn School Census has been put back from the 20th September to 4th October 2007.

Could you please also remember to do your May 2007 Local Authority return as usual.
