Nominations for Parent Governors to Area Children and Young Peoples Partnerships
Nominations for Parent Governors
The Norfolk Governors' Network (NGN) is seeking Parent Governors to represent the views of parents and carers in Area Children and Young People's Partnerships. The Area Partnerships identify local priorities and ways they will be addressed through partnership between a range of agencies working with children, young people and families with reference to the County priorities for improving outcomes for children and young people laid out in the Norfolk Children and Young People's Plan. There are opportunities for two Parent Governors from each Area to be involved. Regulations for this process can be found on the NGN website under governor issues.
Action Required
Every governing body is responsible for giving their Parent Governors the opportunity to stand.
Could Chairs/Clerks please ensure this information is passed on to all Parent Governors directly through chosen methods of communication as soon as possible, to inform and/or ensure all Parent Governors are aware of the opportunity.
At the next full governing body meeting have as an agenda item nominations for Parent Governors to the Area Children and Young People's Partnerships to explain this new situation to all governors.
No more than one Parent Governor can be elected to the Area Partnership from the same governing body. If more than one Parent Governor from the same governing body is nominated NGN will contact the Chair of Governors to resolve the issue.
Nominations must be received by 25/05/07. If there are more nominations than vacancies an election will be held, details of which will be posted on e-courier on 08/06/07. The closing date for voting will be 06/07/07.
Further information
It is vital that governors and parents and carers views are fully represented on these influential partnerships. The roles involve attending meetings in Areas and with other governors and parents and carers as invited, engaging in discussions, and promoting wider participation and involvement of parents and carers and governors in agency, Area and Countywide decision-making.
There are vacancies for 2 Parent Governors on each of the five Area Partnerships in Norfolk. The Norfolk Governors' Network is supporting filling these vacancies. The successful nominees will join the Norfolk Governors' Network nominated representatives who have already been put forward by the NGN County Committee. Area Partnerships meet around 6 times a year; and meetings may be in the morning, afternoon or rarely in the early evening. Occasional attendance at other meetings may be required. The commitment may be slightly different in each Area. This process will seek to ensure representatives can attend meetings, and identify substitutes for when they cannot attend.
The term of office for parent governors is 1 year in the first instance, from July 2007 subject to review at the end of that period.
Information about the Area Partnerships, their membership, and minutes from past meetings is available from the Every Norfolk Child Matters website.
Further information and a nomination form can be found on the NGN website.
