Exclusion update

Exclusion update

The Department for children, schools and families has now issued their revised exclusion guidance and can be found on the Teachernet website. This revised guidance contains details of the new regulations relating to:

Providing education provision for exclusions that extend beyond 5 days duration.

Parents responsibilities for the first 5 days of any exclusion.

Reintegration interviews following exclusions.

The guidance includes a revised model letters for use in exclusions. It is important that these letters are used as they contain the information that parents are now required to receive following an exclusion.

The Exclusion Team will need to have copies of the exclusion notification and a copy of the letter sent to parent(s) for all exclusions longer than 5 days and for all permanent exclusions. This is so we can respond to the LA duties in relation to the new exclusion regulations.

These forms/letters can be emailed to: exclusions@norfolk.gov.uk.

It is still important that schools enter into discussions at an early stage with the area behaviour team regarding any concerns about a child's behaviour difficulties.

As referred to in MI 17/07 Schools using the Phoenix Gold system can now send in exclusion notifications that are for periods of 5 days or less by using your AVCO link. A helpsheet about this is available from ICT Solutions website.
