Guidance for claiming the Pupil Premium funding for Norfolk Looked After Children 2018/19 updated for the financial year 1st April 2018 to 31st March 2019

This circular provides information on arrangements for the allocation of Pupil Premium funding for Norfolk looked after children from April 2018. Schools should note the changes regarding termly allocations and take appropriate steps when considering making additional applications for funding.

Norfolk process for the allocation of the pupil premium grant 2018- 2019

£600 termly allocation

  • A termly (summer, autumn, spring) allocation of £600 will be paid to the school for each eligible pupil
  • The amount will be payable upon completion and sign off of the current term's PEP by the Virtual School team
  • The remaining £500 per eligible pupil will be retained centrally by the VSH in order to meet demand for additional support for individual looked after children or to provide funds for larger projects
  • PEPs are a living record of the pupil's education plan, you are encouraged to hold meetings earlier in the term. This will also ensure timely payment of Pupil Premium funding.
  • The PEP should be scheduled for the first half of the spring term to guarantee the £600 termly payment, due to the end of financial year deadline.
  • Exceptional funding requests
  • Where a requirement for funding over and above the termly allocation is identified in the PEP, schools should complete the Exceptional Pupil Premium Funding Request Form. Applications for larger projects or group interventions should also be made using this form.
  • Any exceptional funding requests MUST be discussed with a VS Adviser (Achievement & Inclusion or Early Years Looked After Children) in the first instance and the form noted. Exceptional requests for funding should be made via Perspective Lite.
  • If an exceptional funding request is submitted before the termly PEP meeting takes place, a deduction from any approved funding will be made to account for the £600 termly payment

As before, schools should continue to ensure that any agreed funding is recorded and evaluated within the pupil's personal education plan.

Detailed information is available on the Pupil Premium section of the Virtual School website.
