Religious Education in the New Secondary Curriculum - clarification

Religious Education in the New Secondary Curriculum - clarification

Religious Education (RE) must be provided for all registered pupils in full time education, except those withdrawn at their parents' request. RE must be taught in accordance with the Norfolk Agreed Syllabus in Community, Foundation and Voluntary Controlled schools. In Norfolk, RE therefore meets legal requirements where it implements the Norfolk Agreed Syllabus 2005. This means that secondary schools should continue to use the Agreed Syllabus and follow the programmes of study outlined in it. Whilst there is no statutory time allocation indicated for RE, the following is stated in the Agreed Syllabus:

'The Programmes of Study have been developed on the assumption that reasonable time is provided for RE. The Norfolk Agreed Syllabus recommends a minimum of 5% curriculum time'

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Kathryn Wright (Secondary RE Consultant for Norfolk Advisory Services) through Cindy Burton at the Professional Development Centre, Woodside Road, Norwich, NR7 9QL. Tel: 01603 433276. Email.
