Management Information Sheet
Submission of KS3 Teacher Assessments 2008
Submission of KS3 Teacher Assessments 2008
(including Religious Education and P Scales)
Schools are required to submit both core and non-core Teacher Assessments electronically to the National Assessment Agency (NAA) in June.
Early Deadline - Thursday 19th June
The deadline for NAA to receive your teacher Assessments is 11th July. Based on last year's experience, I will need at least two weeks to monitor schools' submissions and resolve any problems before the NAA deadline. I am therefore asking you, please, to submit your file by Thursday 19th June. Please do not wait for the test results to arrive before submitting your Teacher Assessments.
P Scales (for children on the SEN register)
As last year, P Scales should be recorded for children who are on the SEN register and are assessed at Level W. This is now a statutory requirement. The Level W must still be recorded for the pupil, in addition to the P Scale. For further information on P Scales please refer to the KS3 Assessment and reporting arrangement booklet for 2008. Your Management Information System (MIS) will facilitate the recording of this P Scale data and your exported file will automatically include any P Scales. (Phoenix Gold and e1 guidance will be provided on the ICT Solutions website.
Religious Education Levels
Last year we informed you of the requirement to submit RE Levels in accordance with the Norfolk Agreed Syllabus for RE which became statutory in September 2006. MI sheet 33/07, issued on 3rd March 2007. The syllabus requires assessment to take place in relation to two Attainment Targets: learning about religion, and learning from religion. The syllabus, p.34-35, gives Level descriptions for attainment in both Attainment Targets. When assessing a pupil's level of attainment at the end of Key Stage 3, Teachers should judge which description best fits the pupil's performance across both Attainment Targets and report a single Level.
If you are using Phoenix Gold or e1, please enter and submit Levels for RE along with the other subjects. (Guidance notes will be provided on the ICT Solutions website. If you are not using Phoenix Gold or e1, please arrange to let me have your RE TA Levels in a separate file (CSV or Excel). The required fields are: Surname, Forename, Date of Birth, UPN and Religious Education Teacher Assessment Level.
The Process for submission of Teacher Assessments:
- KS3 Teacher Assessments (including P Scales) are to be entered or transferred into your Phoenix Gold, e1 (or similar) Assessment Manager system. A single subject level must be submitted for each pupil in each of the core and non-core subjects, with the exception of Citizenship. (For information on reporting Citizenship, please see the Assessment and Reporting Arrangements Booklet for 2008, Section 4.3. and 13.2. Phoenix Gold users, if you choose to enter the individual attainment target levels for English, Maths and Science, the software will calculate the subject levels for you. You may require the English attainment target levels for reporting to parents. If you choose not to enter attainment target levels, you can enter just the subject level using the "override" facility. Attainment targets do not form part of the CTF export to NAA.
- An export file is to be created in CTF format - this is the standard export file created by Phoenix Gold, e1, or other MIS. (Guidance for Phoenix Gold and e1 will be provided on the ICT Solutions website).
- The CTF file is to be submitted via s2s (or similar) by Thursday 19th June (see Early Deadline above). The NAA have said they will provide instructions in April for submitting files. This will be similar to last year, ie. The Information and Research Centre will have access to the files submitted on s2s (or similar secure transfer system) in order to monitor and check submissions.
Please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Chris Jackson in the Information and Research Centre, by email or telephone 01603 224223 if you have any queries regarding these arrangements.
