Essential Skills Programme (ESP) for SENCOs

Essential Skills Programme (ESP) for SENCOS

As part of the review of SEN communication, training and development, an 'Essential Skills Programme' is being offered to all SENCOs from all schools and settings, in all Areas. This programme will be hosted by the Senior Adviser SEN and Inclusion and will be 'free' at the point of delivery.

Area training meetings will be hosted each term and will provide direct training on national, regional and local initiatives relating to SEN and LDD. All SENCOs will be asked to complete a profile form indicating existing training needs which will be used to prioritise the content of each training session.

All schools and settings are asked to book a 'free' training place in either the morning or afternoon session in their Area for each term at www.cpd.norfolk.gov.uk/sdms
The sessions are intended to:

  • Facilitate Area Training SENCO clusters, encouraging peer support and sharing of practice
  • Provide regular contact between the Senior Adviser SEN and Inclusion and all SENCOs in all schools and settings, enabling direct communication, monitoring, support and challenge
  • Offer professional development and increase skills regarding SEN and LDD policy, practice and provision
  • Further increase Area knowledge of SEN practice across schools and settings
