2D Light Fittings - Lamp Replacement

2D Light Fittings - Lamp Replacement: For the Attention of all Premises Managers and Caretakers

Problem
There have been a number of instances of lamps of the wrong wattage being used when replacing 2D lamps (usually installed in circulation areas such as entrance foyers, corridors, landings and stairs, toilets, storerooms, boiler rooms, mains cupboards and externally for walkways), resulting in the light fittings being damaged and the fittings then having to be replaced. Most of the problems appear to arise when 28w lamps are forced into 35w fittings.

2D lamps commonly come in three different sizes, 16w, 28w and 35w. The physical size of the plug in connector of all three lamps is very similar and with a small amount of force they will fit into the incorrect lamp holders. This problem is occurring in a number of schools, children's centres and children's homes, and is becoming costly because the damaged fitting has to be replaced.

Solution
Action:
  1. Make an inventory of your premises' 2D lights and their correct wattage for future reference, or use a small identification label on each fitting eg colour sticker cross referenced to an information note in bulb storage area.
  2. Ensure that the correct wattage lamps are ordered when lamps need replacing and do not attempt to fit incorrect wattage lamps as the fittings will be damaged.
