Norfolk Framework for Teachers Professional Development

Norfolk Framework for Teachers Professional Development

Please note that every school has been sent a hard copy wall poster of the new Norfolk Framework for Teachers Professional Development. The Framework links to the Professional Standards for Teachers and Headteachers and has been created to provide guidance and help schools and individuals consider the training and development options for teachers and headteachers in the light of workforce remodelling and extended services, plus revisions to the performance management arrangements. Schools are encouraged to use the Framework to ensure their teaching workforce is aware of the availability of training and development opportunities. It will also help identify skills within the school, and areas for development, by mapping staff against training and qualifications and national standards and may also help to support the performance management process. Staff can use the Framework to identify career pathways and plan their career development by identifying opportunities so they can make informed decisions.

Would you please find a prominent place to display the poster so that it is accessible to all of the teaching and supply staff at your school.

The Framework guide notes for each career stage are available online and can be downloaded as separate A4 sheets.

The main source of professional learning and development for staff in Norfolk schools is the Inset Opportunities brochure and each school was sent a hard copy of the latest publication earlier this term. The brochure is also available online.

Please note that there is also a Norfolk Framework for School Support Staff and this can be viewed online.

For information, schools might like to access the consultation paper and feedback questionnaire on the proposed National Standards for School Leadership which is on the National College of School Leadership website. It is proposed that the standards should apply to all school leaders with designated leadership responsibilities. The scope, scale and extent to which these standards apply to individual school leaders will vary and depend on the person's role and responsibilities. The DCSF and NCSL would like to receive feedback from members of the school workforce (leaders and aspiring leaders), governors, local and diocesan authority personnel and others, by 3 March, 2009.

If you have any query or would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact Peter Simmonds on 07795 265669 or by email or Virginia Wakely on 01603 638092 or by email.

If, for any reason, your school does not receive a wall poster in the courier this week, please contact Virginia Wakely on the above number or by email.
