Measles vaccinations
Before children begin school it is really important that they are up to date with their vaccinations to protect themselves from several contagious and very serious diseases. At school children will be mixing with large numbers of children in a confined environment which increases the risk of bugs (viruses and bacteria alike) spreading. Vaccination builds children's immunity to protect against these illnesses. Therefore, before children begin school we ask if parents could check with his/her GP that they have had their vaccinations scheduled for three years and four months of age. These vaccinations include: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio (DTaP); and measles, mumps, rubella (MMR).
We have been made aware there is an increase of measles cases across the UK. In East Anglia we have only seen a few cases of measles, however, there are still risks of an outbreak in our area due to children/young adults not being fully vaccinated against MMR.
We would like your support, and ask that you to send this letter/poster and pre-school leaflets to parents of children entering primary school this September.
