Norfolk County Council has recently carried out an election process to appoint two Parent Governor Representatives to serve on the Council’s Scrutiny Committee. This is a requirement of the Schools Standards and Framework Act 1998 and the purpose is to provide a voice for parents in the Council’s decision making process.

All parent governors at Norfolk LEA maintained schools are eligible and were invited to nominate themselves for the positions and at the close of nominations, one nomination had been received. As there are 2 positions, it was unnecessary for a ballot to take place and the single nominee has therefore been appointed as a co-opted member of the Scrutiny Committee. It will be necessary to seek to fill the remaining vacancy in due course and a further nomination process will then take place.

The successful nominee was Giles Hankinson, who is a parent governor at Brooke V.C C of E Primary School. The County Council congratulates Giles on his appointment and looks forward to working with him during his 4-year term of office.
