2019 Risk of NEET Indicators

Look out for the 2019 Risk of NEET Indicator (RONI) report for your school. The report should be with you, the Career Leader/Adviser or the Deputy Head/Assistant Principal now.

The named RONI reports give an easy-to-view summary of the quantifiable adverse factors which may affect some pupils in the year 10 and year 11 that may result in these students being at greater risk of becoming NEET after year 11. These factors include personal characteristics such as eligibility for free school meals (deprivation), looked after children, involvement with the Youth Offending team, etc. and can be major obstacles to successful post 16 destinations and progressions, particularly when more than one are combined. The report is intended to objectively highlight these factors to allow the school to sense check the information in relation to their understanding of particular individual young people, and to provide appropriate support where required.

We would welcome feedback from schools about the RONI report and its uses to provide targeted careers guidance and support to young people. We would also like to engage with schools to consider ways of providing better targeted support activities with young people most at risk of NEET during Year 11 in order to prevent them from becoming NEET.
