Norfolk Schools Local Full Fibre Network Update

Ultrafast broadband will benefit 230 schools within Norfolk within the next two years after Norfolk County Council secured £8m from the UK Government Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) department's Local Full Fibre Network (LFFN).

Norfolk County Council is pleased to confirm that the commercial and contractual phase of our Local Full Fibre Network Project has been completed and the Delivery Project is now underway.

The project will be managed by Capita Updata and will see full fibre upgrades for around 230 schools delivered between now and March 2021. A map of the areas due to receive the upgrade is now available.

This is exciting news for schools which will allow you to benefit from:

  • Consistent and faster speeds dedicated to the school
  • Infrastructure to adopt the DfE technology in education strategy
  • Reduction in IT support costs through moving to cloud applications
  • Enable schools to cope with future demands e.g. increased video streaming

Is my school on the list and what do I need to do?

Our bid funding includes 230 schools in Norfolk. We will be in contact with you soon to let you know you are included. Once we have confirmed implementation plans from Updata and Openreach we will discuss your individual upgrade information and likely timescales with you.

If I am not included in the bid funding, what can I do?

Unfortunately, we had a criteria set by the DCSM which meant not all schools were eligible as part of this funding round. However, NCC is committed to making Norfolk the best-connected rural county in the UK and we are looking at other funding options available.

We have recently launched our Norfolk Digital Connectivity website to keep you informed of our plans.

Where can I get more information from?
