CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) Transformation update
Welcome to the latest update on our system-wide work to redesign and transform mental health services for children and young people in Norfolk and Waveney. Please do cascade and circulate as widely as you can.
Engagement
Throughout September and October, we held a series of six engagement events around Norfolk and Waveney to help shape the new service model. We were incredibly pleased with the quality of input, feedback and questions generated. We were joined by a particularly varied mix of colleagues and stakeholders, including schools and colleges, the third sector, social care and the police.
We've also engaged directly with various networks and stakeholders, including headteacher forums across Norfolk and Waveney, health partners, and representatives of parents and carer groups. This work will continue as we build on a new model for insight and engagement into the future, and we will engage with staff and stakeholders on an ongoing basis.
The aim of this recent engagement was to shape a more detailed proposal for senior leaders, and to highlight key implementation questions for those managing transformation. The strong consensus so far is that the proposed new service model is exciting and ambitious and represents a real opportunity to improve the experiences of children and young people in Norfolk and Waveney. It has been really heartening to experience such strong support across the system. At the same time, the questions and challenges raised in relation to implementation have been very constructive and will frame how we approach the next phase of transformation.
What happens next
Implementation proposals will be presented at the first meeting of the new governing body, the Alliance Board, when it meets on the 19 December. In the meantime, the transformation team will focus on the following project areas:
- Workforce
- Clinical Service Development
- Estates and Infrastructure
- Digital Infrastructure
- Data and Reporting
- Governance and Finance
- Insight and Engagement
- Thriving and Universal Services
If you or your colleagues have particular expertise or interest, or knowledge of best practice in any of these areas, do get in touch with the CYPMS (Children & Young People Mental Services) Transformation Programme Manager, Simon Paylor: simon.paylor@norfolk.gov.uk.
We're also very pleased to announce that NSFT (Norfolk & Suffolk Foundation Trust) and Point 1 have recruited Al Bailey as Transformation Manager for this next phase of implementation. Al is a very experienced clinician who has been involved in the redesign work for a number of months, but this appointment will provide considerable capacity for the transformation team, and support, oversight and coordination for our current Tier 2 and 3 providers in the process of change.
Kind regards
Sara
