SEN operational update

Within the SEN team we work hard, do great work and try to accomplish this one step at a time. We listen to feedback from parents, partners and colleagues when they tell us what needs to be improved and we do our best to implement this. That means the LA get to make improvements that actually matter to you.

As you will be aware to accomplish anything there is an opportunity review processes. You told us that we need to improve timescales on the 20 week Education, Health and Care plan process. We have a number of creative and exciting initiatives in place that will support this; from commissioning private Educational Psychology (EP) services, working closely with our schools and internal partners, employing more SEN staff within the team and, more importantly, doing tasks differently. One of the steps we have taken within the SEN teams is when new statutory advice is received and a plan is agreed the EHCP coordinators are writing these plans in a short time period to negate further time delay. We are then reviewing each case and where possible drafting the plan, issuing it to parents and then offering a telephone call/meeting with the EHCP coordinators if the parent would like one to discuss any amendments. We have done it this way as to try and organise a provision mapping meeting could take up to another 4 to 6 weeks to get everyone there just adding more time delay.

We hope that you will appreciate that this stance is a positive one. It will be reviewed on a termly basis with a view to hold a 'Provision planning meeting' as a matter of course on all new referrals as soon as we are able.
