Analysis of Revenue Balances 2019-2020

Last year we requested schools to report on their Pupil Premium and PE Sports Premium, and this year we have rationalised and condensed the process into one requirement for schools, making it simpler for completion and reporting back to governors.

The Analysis of Balance form has some additional sections included to support reconciliation and monitoring of funding amounts, providing leadership and school governors with an improved method of monitoring their revenue balance, and to fully understand what funding amounts are included as the overall total.

It is anticipated that department reporting could be used to complete some of the information requested as part of the revenue balances, and the information entered and agreed by the governing board can then be used to setup and monitor specific funding streams as outlined on the balances form.

To support the monitoring and updating of information, we will be introducing training linked to the reporting at department code level in order to broaden the knowledge around consistent financial reporting and to support schools with this important process. Please look out for further information that will be released shortly.

These changes are a result of the discussions held with the Finance Consultative Group who advised and subsequently approved the new format outlined above.

Due to the Year End process of the LA, the school’s balances will be reversed into their accounts for the start of the new financial year, this does not indicate that the LA agrees to the school’s balance. It is for the school governing board to review the Analysis of Balance form and ensure the balance is representative of the figure brought forward by the LA.

The form will be emailed on completion of the Year End process following the Easter Holidays.

The deadline for completion of this process is the 18 May 2020. Any late returns will be subsequently highlighted on the schools RAG report.
