Fully Funded Formative Assessment Training Opportunities

An Environment to Support Effective Assessment for Learning with Children in YR-Y6

This assessment for learning training is for all primary school teachers and is organised through a workbook with embedded links to four short online video presentations, each with inbuilt tasks. The training is organised under the following headings:

  • Supportive- a positive and respectful emotional environment to promote good relationships, learning behaviours and well-being
  • Structured- an environment where daily routines are part of the learning experience and promote communication, reasoning skills, and a sense of community.
  • Stimulating- an environment providing challenge and opportunity for extended learning, where children develop fluency in applying skills and knowledge, within a broad and well-sequenced curriculum.
  • Successful- an environment which supports effective formative assessment, including making teacher observations of independent, embedded learning, both as a participant and as a bystander.
  • The training can be booked here, using course code: EAEY-0920-T006

Observations and Interactions which Ensure Reliable Assessment with Children in YR-Y6

Making observations and interacting with children as they learn are key strategies in effective formative assessment across the primary phase. They enable assessment to become an integrated part of the learning process, reflect what is interesting, challenging and worthwhile to the children, and provide a more holistic and reliable picture of attainment and progress.

This training will:

  • Explore the rationale and benefits for using observation as a key strategy in formative assessment.
  • Develop observational techniques, including active listening, effective questioning,'serve and return' interactions, and other elements of good communication.
  • Evaluate how observation and interaction can support a well sequenced curriculum.
  • Guide delegates in how to capture observations in a time effective way.
  • Consider how to share observations so that pupils and parents become participants and contributors to the assessment process.

This training is organised through a workbook with embedded links to short online video presentations, each with inbuilt tasks.

The training can be booked here, using course code: EAEY-0920-T007
