Identification of Needs Descriptors in Educational Settings (INDES) and Inclusion and Provision SEF (IPSEF) - Updated

This communication provides an update to the MI Sheet 115/20, Identification of Needs Descriptors in Educational Settings (INDES) and Inclusion and Provision SEF (IPSEF), published on the 6th November 2020.

In light of increasing COVID cases and pressure on schools, the 1st window for completing the INDES for pupils with SEND has been extended to the 15th January 2021. This is to provide more time for schools to become familiar with these processes and acknowledges that this may take more time in the current circumstances.

This will be the first round and opportunity for schools to adopt the use of the INDES. We acknowledge the time might not be right for all schools to complete these now, so there will be a further opportunity to participate in briefings and to start using these in the spring term, after which we hope all schools will embed these as part of their SEND annual cycle of work.

Please note, schools only need to participate in either the current or later round to adopt the INDES.

If you have any questions about the INDES or need further support with this process, please contact the VS SEND at indesipsefsupport@norfolk.gov.uk or book a slot at the INDES surgery sessions detailed below:

1st Round of INDES surgeries

INDES surgeries (1st round) Wednesday 25th November 10am-12pm Request a slot here: indesipsefsupport@norfolk.gov.uk

If you are unable to attend of these sessions, a video presentation is available.

Moderators expressions of interest

Moderation events will be held during the Spring and Summer terms to ensure consistency and equity across INDES and IPSEF submissions. Rounds 1 and 2 of INDES will be moderated using submissions from a percentage of a setting's total SEND cohort, taking into consideration the setting's number on roll.

Moderators consist of professionals from educational settings and NCC SEND and Inclusion teams; settings colleagues benefit from being part of moderation to understand and gain a wider understanding of the process.

If you are interested in becoming a moderator of these processes, please contact us via the mailbox and we will forward details to you indesipsefsupport@norfolk.gov.uk.
