Update on Pupil Premium Plus for Previously Looked After Children
Changes to the Pupil Premium Grant
On the 17 December 2020 the Department for Education announced changes to the Pupil Premium Grant changing the way it will be allocated from April 2021.
The update to the guidance states that the data from the October 2020 census will now be used to allocate funding to schools from April 2021 for the Pupil Premium grant.
This information published on 17 December replaces the previous guidance referenced in MI sheet 139/20 in Ecourier - Issue 744.
The amount of funding will remain the same at £2,345 per eligible pupil per year.
For alternative provision and pupil referral units, the January census will still be used.
Further information about this is expected and will be shared with you upon its release.
Impact for children and young people
If your child left the care of a local authority in England or Wales for an adoption order, special guardianship order or child arrangement order they are eligible for the Pupil Premium funding.
However, if they moved schools after the October 2020 census, their new setting will not be able to record them as eligible until the next October census in 2021. This means the first payment their new school will receive will be in April 2022.
