Hillcrest Primary School Specialist Resource Base (SRB) opening September 2021

Hillcrest Primary School's SRB is the latest SRB scheduled to open under the County Council's investment in Special Education Needs and Disability as part of the SEND and AP Transformation programme.

Hillcrest joins the Learning and Cognition family of SRBs located at:

Norwich Area:

  • Mile Cross Primary (KS1)
  • George White Junior, part of the Inclusive Schools Trust (KS2)

Yarmouth Area:

  • Hillside Primary (KS2)

Breckland Area:

  • Watton Junior, part of Corvus Education Trust (KS2)

Downham Market:

  • Hillcrest Primary (KS2 from Sept 2021, KS1 planned for 2022)

All SRBs cater for up to 10 children at any one time.

Hillcrest referrals can be made for September 21 placements at KS2 and all other SRBs are available for consideration of referrals in line with published criteria.

What does a Learning and Cognition SRB offer?

  • A place in a LCN SRB provides short term intensive support, generally for two terms
  • Smaller class sizes of up to ten learners at any one time
  • Pupils attend the SRB for four days a week and the home school for one day
  • The LCN SRBs are supported by Parkside (Complex Needs) School
  • The SRB also has access to dedicated educational psychology time
  • A transition plan is agreed to support the successful reintegration back into the home school
  • Primary Phase Outreach training and support delivered by a dedicated Learning and Cognition SRB Outreach Teacher

Before making a referral

  • The schools' own strategies for inclusion will have been utilised including access to any additional support available through the Local Offer. This will need to be evidenced as part of any referral.
  • Pupil profile information should be reviewed. This is available on the Norfolk Schools and Learning Providers website.
  • The home school should contact the SRB school prior to making a referral to explore suitability
  • A visit for the pupil and family can be made to the SRB at a pre-arranged time and in line with school procedures
  • The home school must read and agree to the interschool agreement that sets out the terms and conditions for the placement
  • Full pre-referral requirements including information needed to support online referrals is published on the Norfolk Schools and Learning Providers website also.

What happens next?

  • Referrals are considered at half-termly county SRB admission meetings
  • Letters to confirm an offer are issued to parent/carers and copied to the home school and relevant SRB
  • Transport will be arranged if the child meets transport criteria under our home to school transport policy
