SEND Regulations 2014: Schedule 1: SEN Information Reports (SIRs)

A school's SEN Information Report (SIR) is an opportunity to provide up to date, easy to understand and helpful information for parents/carers which settings have a duty to publish.

In autumn 2020, the proportion of educational settings in our area who had published an up-to-date SIR on their website was 74%. This was an 11% increase from autumn 2019.

A small number of SIRs were randomly selected and sampled for quality audit in spring of 2020 and 2021. Nursery, infant, primary, secondary, special and college settings were all randomly selected in this year's audit. Our audit showed that when reviewing and developing their SIRs, more and more settings are considering how to meet this duty in a helpful and accessible format.

To help schools and other settings review and develop their SIRs, we have developed a new online SEN Information Report (SIR) audit tool, available on the SEN Information Report web page. The online SIR audit tool can be used to review an existing SIR. Once the online SIR audit form is submitted, the SENDCo receives a report which outlines the strengths and areas for development of the SIR.

The online SIR audit tool can be used in the following ways:

  • Individual SENDCo
  • Peer to peer (SENDCo to SENDCo)
  • SENDCo with SEN Governor
  • SENDCo with Parents/Carers

Both types of SIR audits will be repeated during autumn 2021.
