NAB Induction for Early Career Teachers (ECTs)
From September 2021, statutory induction arrangements are changing. These new arrangements will replace current induction requirements.
Appropriate Bodies will continue to play an important role in statutory teacher induction. It is statutory that all Early Career Teachers have access to an ECF/ECT package and are registered with an Appropriate Body.
Norfolk Appropriate Body (NAB) will continue to provide schools and early career teachers (ECTs) with a robust induction service which includes support, advice and guidance in line with the revised directive. Our scheme is underpinned by our drive to recruit and retain the best teachers. We ensure compliance of the statutory regulations so all ECTs receive a personalised programme of support to give them the best start.
Service provision covers the following:
- Support, advice and guidance from a dedicated, experienced team
- Essential briefings and Welcome sessions
- A fully inclusive support package for vulnerable ECTs
- Access to a bank of resources and a handbook
- Rigorous quality assurance programme which will include fidelity checking in accordance with the new guidance for the Early Career Framework
Registering and start date
All schools/ institutions using NAB should register their ECT on our on-line database, ECT Manager. The start date for induction should be the date when the ECT's induction programme formally commences. This may be a different date from when the ECT's contract starts.
Fidelity Checking
From September 2021, appropriate bodies will be expected to check that all ECTs have access to an induction programmed based on the Early Career Framework. This check is referred to as 'ECF fidelity' checking. Schools will be expected to opt for one of three approaches to delivery of an ECF-based induction. The level of fidelity checking will vary depending on the approach chosen.
