Opening Schools Facilities Grants now available

Sport England and the Department of Education are investing £10.1 million nationally to support to schools in opening up their facilities for extra-curricular and community use. The Opening School Facilities fund is available for Norfolk schools through Active Norfolk with an application window open now!

This investment comes at an important time given the impact COVID-19 has had on the falling activity levels of children and young people and will provide rapid support to schools to further support the health and wellbeing of young people and their local communities.

The objective of this fund is to support schools to open their facilities and spaces outside of the normal school day, allowing local young people more places and opportunities to be physically active. The desire is for prompt intervention with expectation of young people being able to benefit from this funding from the summer term 2021 onwards.

If your school meets one of the following criteria, you are invited to apply:

  • has a high percentage of pupils eligible for free school meals
  • has pupils who would benefit from being more active
  • can extend the physical activity offer to pupils with SEND
  • your pupils have limited use of school facilities outside of the school day

Funding of up to £5000 per school can be awarded. The deadline to apply is 9am Thursday 10 June 2021.

The application process has been kept simple to encourage schools to apply.

Whether it's for purchases to help meet COVID requirements, extra equipment, improving accessibility or increasing staffing this grant is available to help schools improve opportunities for young people to be more physically active who need it most.
