Closure of the Education Library Service

Following my letter to you last November to let you know that the Education Library Service may be closing, I am writing to update you and tell you that this is now, sadly, a confirmed decision and it will cease trading on 31st March 2022.

We would like to thank you very much for your support and say how much we have enjoyed working with you over the years.

  • We will be in touch with individual schools to let you know about any services we are not able to deliver in 2021-2022, and if any refunds are due to you
  • Some schools may owe the Education Library Service for services provided prior to receipt of full payment and invoices for the outstanding amounts will be raised at the end of March
  • We will contact you about any library stock you still have at school, and please do not hesitate to contact the Education Library Service with any specific queries you may have

I am pleased to be able to tell you that local community libraries are now fully open and welcoming families and children back. There are lots of FREE children's events planned for the half term and beyond, including animation, coding and lots more. Joining the library is free and there are lots of activities to take part in. Please see the details attached and find out more at norfolk.gov.uk/libraries

The service has an ambition for every child to be a library member and more confident reader, and remember, there are no longer any overdue charges and fines for children under the age of 16. We will be in touch later about the support schools will be able to access from their local public library. I would like to remind you that the public mobile library service, which stops near several schools, will continue to visit.

We look forward to working with you in your mission to encourage children to read and improve their literacy skills and welcome your comments and ideas about ways in which we can support you. Please contact libraries@norfolk.gov.uk

Kind regards,

Jill Terrell
Head of Norfolk Libraries and Information Service
