Big Norfolk Holiday Fun

Thank you for helping us deliver another successful holiday activity programme over the Easter holidays. By now you will have received the communication from the Department of Education about this summer's holiday activity scheme (HAF). We are pleased to report that the Norfolk HAF Summer holiday activity scheme will be launching soon - badged as 'Big Norfolk Holiday Fun'. As always we'll be working closely with you to ensure that families are engaged and excited about taking part. We're keen to encourage even more pupil premium children to take part this summer and we know you can help us do this.

We know that it's an incredibly busy time of the year for schools with lots of communication with parents around transition, SATS, and summer events but the role that you play in getting children to attend the activities is extremely important. Parents continue to tell us that the information provided by schools has been essential in raising awareness of the programme and encouraging children to attend, so we know how very important your role is in the process.

Promoting the scheme to eligible families

This year we're making it even easier for families eligible for means tested free school meals to book on to activities. Instead of needing a HAF code to book eligible parents just need to enter the name of their child's school during the booking process.

We're asking for your help to help promote the scheme please once booking has opened by:

  • sending the Big Summer Holiday Fun pdf to all eligible families
  • working with families you know who may struggle to make the booking themselves
  • promote the scheme in your weekly school newsletter
  • promote the scheme on your Facebook page

The scheme will run from the 25th July until 3rd September for children aged 5-16 (and 4 year olds in reception classes) who are eligible for means tested free school meals.

Booking is due to open in the next couple of weeks and we'll send you all the promotional materials to share with your parents as soon as booking opens.

Additional free places for vulnerable children and young people

In addition to places for children eligible for means tested free school meals, there are a small number of places available to vulnerable children and young people. We are asking you to identify those children that will benefit most from the HAF scheme. Please contact us at BNHF@norfolk.gov.uk with details of the children you'd like to put forward for a HAF awarded place. As there is limited space, HAF awarded spaces will be restricted and issued on a first come first served basis.

Thanks as always for supporting us in getting messages about the holiday scheme out to eligible families, we really appreciate your help. If you have any questions, please contact your HAF coordinator by emailing BNHF@norfolk.gov.uk Looking forward to a fun and active Summer holiday!
