Management Information Sheet
Updated Safeguarding Policy and whole school training package
Revised Statutory Guidance
On 20 May 2022, the Department for Education (DfE) published a revised version of 'Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSiE)'. The revised guidance is for information only at this stage so that schools and colleges can plan for the commencement of the guidance on 1 September 2022; until this time, the existing statutory guidance, 'Keeping Children Safe in Education' 2021 is still in force and schools and colleges must continue to have regard to it.
Following on from MI sheet 110/22 published on 3 June 2022 the Education Safeguarding Team have revised the model Safeguarding Policy and this is available on the Forms and Templates page of the Norfolk Schools and Learning Providers website. It is crucial that educational settings add details to the policy where there are indicators to do so, including details about the curriculum, how safeguarding concerns are reported, specific responses to children who go missing from education, and the procedure for reporting all low-level concerns.
The whole school training package PowerPoint, delegate resource book, trainer manual, evaluation and other associated resources are available via My School.
PLEASE NOTE: For the academic year 2022-2023 there are two options for delivery of the whole school training package.
Option 1
This option has been available in previous academic years. The DSL(s) leading the training should download the PowerPoint and use the notes and Trainer Manual to deliver the training. The Delegate Resource Book will support the understanding of staff throughout the training and afterwards. Evaluations should be completed and analysed to identify any areas where staff still require further training or support.
Option 2- NEW FOR 2022-2023
The second option has been developed following feedback from Headteachers. The DSL(s) leading the training should play the link from My School for the narrated PowerPoint. NB: The recording will only play from My School. This provides a voiceover for the PowerPoint. The DSL should pause the recording for the learning activities and gather feedback from the staff team. It is still a requirement that a DSL(s) will be facilitating the training and ensuring staff fully participate.
The Trainer Manual should be downloaded and used by the DSL(s), staff should have a copy of the Delegate Resource Book and complete an evaluation. This training should be interactive; it is not for staff to play the recording and listen to individually.
The recorded version of the training will be available in due course and the Education Safeguarding Team will send a Tweet once this is available on My School.
The forms, templates and modules of training will be updated over the summer holiday.
What should schools and colleges do?
- Read KCSiE giving particular consideration to the changes
- Review all relevant policy documents, procedures and training and devise an action plan to implement required changes in preparation for 1 September 2022.
- Ensure that the final version of the guidance is accessed and disseminated to staff when it is published.
