Educational Support Grants for schools with refugee children

Eligible refugee children need to be aged 3 and above on entry to the UK. Early Years can claim £400 per child per term for a maximum of 3 terms and school aged children are entitled to £800 per child per term for a maximum of 3 terms.

The children must have arrived on a registered scheme

  • Homes for Ukraine (not Family Visa Scheme)
  • UKRS resettlement overseen by The People From Abroad Team
  • ACAS/ARAP Afghan scheme overseen by The People From Abroad Team

The education grant can be claimed using the claim form attached. Guidance is also provided. One form per child needs to be filled in and all the relevant documentation attached. The claim will NOT be processed without this (admission documentation / attendance documentation / relevant invoices relating to the claim). The claims are processed termly with rollovers given only in certain circumstances. All monies must be claimed by the end of the third term.

The EAL/EDC Advisory team can support your school in how to use this funding effectively to provide EAL resources and opportunities for your refugee children. You can also use the funding to enable staff at your school to attend CPD in EAL and Trauma Informed Practice.

The EAL CPD offers includes:

  • Courses for EAL co-ordinators - via TEAMS or in school
  • EAL Network sessions - via TEAMS
  • EAL in the Mainstream Primary Classroom - eLearning (Primary)
  • EAL Teaching Assistant course (Primary) - Face to face

  • Distinguishing the difference between EAL and SEN training course - Face to face
  • In-school bespoke training in EAL.
