Recording your school's closure

Please ensure that any plans for school closure, whether partial or full, are recorded on the Emergency School Closure system in the 'My School' section on the Norfolk Schools website. Please include in the 'Closure comments' section the reason for partial/ full closure.

If you have the same information for both strike days, you can set the "From Date" for your school closure to 15/03/2023 and the "To date" to 16/03/2023. If you have different information to record for each day, please enter the details for each day separately. When setting the 'From date' and 'To date, please ensure it is the date of the closure that is recorded.

Please note that the information provided on school closure is not published until the day of the strike. Please record any partial/ full school closures as soon as possible, we appreciate you may need to be update the system again on the day of the strike should your situation change.

If you have any queries about how to enter advance notification into the school closure system, Duncan Slack, 01603 224282 duncan.slack@norfolk.gov.uk , can offer advice and guidance.

Notify your payroll service

For schools using NCC Payroll for payroll services, you should have received a spreadsheet from payroll for the collection of data (for the 15 and 16 March 2023 strike action). Those spreadsheets returned by 31st March will have deductions made from May salaries.

Notify those teachers who could strike in writing

Staff should be advised that industrial action constitutes a breach of contract and that a day's pay will be deducted from their salary. A model letter template can be found in the LA industrial action guidance.

FSM entitlement

Where schools will be restricting attendance, and where pupils are eligible for benefit related free school meals, schools should work with their catering team or food provider to ensure that a good quality lunch parcel is made available for those pupils who are not in school.

Sickness insurance

When registering claims for sickness insurance for the March strike action, claims should not be submitted for any staff members who have stated that they are taking part in the industrial action scheduled for:

  • Wednesday, March 1
  • Wednesday, March 15
  • Thursday, March 16

We will be required to submit a list of employees taking part in the industrial action. If a staff member appears on this list, they must not be included on any Sickness Insurance claim for these dates. Any sickness claim required for these staff members should be end dated on the working day before the strike date(s), and a new second claim entered beginning on the working day after the strike date.
