Recruitment of Early Career Teachers to start in September 2023

Have you recruited an Early Career Teacher (ECT) to start in September, or is there the possibility of you doing so for September?

With ECF reforms now in their third year, Appropriate Body (AB) reforms new this year, and the Department updating the Statutory guidance on Induction for ECTs, sign up to join us for a webinar on either May 25th or June 28th to:

  • bring you up to speed with what you need to know and do.
  • pose your questions and have them answered by Norfolk's ABs.
  • ensure that Tutors, Mentors and Senior Leaders are prepared for September (including getting everyone through their initial training).

What the webinar will cover

  • The steps to take on appointing an ECT this year.
  • Choices for schools in relation to the ECF and AB services.
  • How and when to secure AB support and ECF training for your school.
  • How and when to register your ECT(s), Induction Tutor(s) and Mentor(s).
  • Q&A.

In the meantime, don't delay on the following actions

  1. Notify and register with one of Norfolk's Teaching School Hubs for AB services as soon as you recruit an ECT. Not doing this may delay the start of the induction period (guidance 2.26).
  2. Decide on your approach to ECF training, and:
    1. Notify your chosen provider's local delivery partner, if using a DfE-funded training provider.
    2. Inform your chosen AB, if using DfE-accredited materials or designing your own programme. Your AB will need to quality assure and agree with your plans this term.
  3. Register all this on Manage training for ECTs (once the Department announces that this service is open for this purpose).

Who we are

Teaching Schools Hubs are centres of excellence for high-quality, evidence-informed professional development. As part of this, we provide DfE-funded training for ECTs and their mentors, as well as acting as Appropriate Bodies. We work closely with Norfolk County Council as the other main Appropriate Body serving Norfolk schools. This webinar will be jointly hosted by the two Hubs serving Norfolk and colleagues from Norfolk County Council.
