Respiratory infection related health and safety guidance

The respiratory infection related health and safety guidance was hosted on Norfolk Schools internet during the COVID pandemic; access to this was extended to the end of last academic year. This has now been moved to HR Infospace - Infection Control.

The standard infection control personal behaviours and responsibilities (respiratory infections) G645b has been updated, this includes:

  • The responsibilities and testing information section have been amended to further reinforce that COVID testing is only required in specified circumstances (for example, when a person is eligible for COVID treatments)
  • Changes to the individual risk assessment section to reflect who is considered to be at risk.

Please continue to follow advice on absence due to respiratory infection - staff and pupils should stay at home when they have active symptoms of a respiratory illness in line with this guidance.

Please ensure that you continue to apply the infection control precautions detailed in Educational settings - standard respiratory infection control precautions G645a. Ventilation is a key precaution, please review your arrangements for ventilation during colder months as detailed in this guidance.

Colds, flu and other respiratory illnesses are more common during colder months. The Infection Control Compliance Code P645 provides further information about how to manage this. In most circumstances increasing cases do not need to be notified to the Health Protection Team and can be managed locally as detailed in this compliance code.
