Local First Inclusion - Special Educational Needs (SEN) support plan guidance and best practice

The new guidance document and associated resources have been developed through engagement and collaborative work with mainstream Norfolk primary and secondary settings. Thank you to all the settings who have supported this work so far.

The resources include:

  • Case study examples to share current practice
  • SEN support plan templates which can be used or adapted
  • A downloadable checklist which settings can use to support reflection on their current processes and plans

SEN Support Plans are an essential part of the identification of needs descriptors in educational settings (INDES) moderation process. The INDES Implementation Guide provides further information on using the INDES effectively in settings.

These new guides and templates have been developed for professionals to use in settings. We will continue to work with settings to develop a broader range of case studies and exemplars which reflect the diversity of approaches across Norfolk. Work is also underway to develop additional guidance and resources for settings to support children and young people and families to participate in decisions about their provision.

Developing mainstream inclusion, culture and practice is a fundamental part of the Local First Inclusion Programme. One aspect of this work is to support settings in creating robust, effective SEN support plans, which is part of a wider programme aimed at enabling all children and young people with SEND to Flourish.
